Ethelon was founded by a group of university students in 2012, during “Athens Startup Weekend University”, a national entrepreneurship contest, in which Ethelon won the second prize. Ethelon is a global volunteers’ platform, which enables people from all over the world to register as volunteers and participate in many kinds of events and volunteer actions, according to their skills, location, interests and the needs of the particular event. Ethelon currently has more than 6500 volunteers in Greece and abroad and more than 150 supported events and 100 social actions. At present, Ethelon is considered to be one of the fastest growing not-for-profit organizations in Greece. It has also evolved to include GloVo.4all, an extension to the existing platform that enables disabled people to participate in volunteer programme activities for the first time in Greece and it organises its own actions such as “GloVo.con”, a 3-day conference, organised by volunteers.
